It’s a boy.
For some reason, there never was any real discussion about that.
But the name. O, the name.
We wanted alliteration and two syllables. As reference to classic childbook characters, and for reasons of rhyme – this monkey will be called at singing after all.
We first got stuck on Mopey. He seemed to be listening to it.
Yet, “to mope” means “to be gloomy or dejected”. That really is quite a conceptual burden for anyone to carry, even for an imaginary monkey.
So we settled on Manfred. Little old-fashioned, but, so we reckoned, with high vintage potential.
